Healing Rooted in Ancient Wisdom
Our goal at Abaton Belize is to develop a unique treatment facility rooted in ancient, indigenous, and Western medical practices — focused on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing. Our diverse treatments involve the elements, cycles and seasons, plants, animals, and dreams.
The Revival of the Dream Chamber
What makes Abaton Belize unique among modern healing centers is its central focus on the therapeutic power of dreams. Abaton means "dream chamber" and refers to the Ancient Greek Asklepian sanctuaries, where dream incubation took place. From 600 BCE and for centuries after, peasants, kings, and people of all classes made pilgrimages to abatons across the ancient world.
Those seeking healing came to sleep in the sanctuaries to receive a dream or vision that would either heal them directly or guide them toward healing themselves. This tradition has largely disappeared in the modern era. Abaton Belize seeks to revive this way of healing — weaving it together with other ancient and contemporary treatment methods to create a holistic center like none other.
The Land
Eighty-one acres of beautiful scenery on the Coastal Highway in Stann Creek District, Belize — surrounded by citrus orchards and nestled within the Belizean jungle between the sea and the Maya Mountains. With thousands of trees and local plants on the property, visitors are surrounded by countless natural medicines and an abundance of delicious local fruits and vegetables growing right outside their doors.
Our Community
Our community consists of physicians, psychologists, healing practitioners, and teachers, as well as many indigenous healers who still practice ancient healing traditions here in Belize. This diverse assortment of experts offers invaluable guidance and support for our center — bridging worlds of medicine that rarely meet.
